Volvo C40 Recharge heading to Malaysia? – 420 km range

The Volvo C40 is certainly a looker when compared to the XC40 Recharge – yes, there is quite the difference (more on this later). With performance figures of 408 PS and 660Nm, which certainly makes it a pretty capable EV paired with a decent range.

Introducing the Volvo C40 Recharge

Built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) co-developed by Geely, the C40 features the P8 AWD (all-electric powertrain). The C40 has an electric motor on each axle (2 motors, for 2 axles) for a total power output of 408 PS (402 hp) and a torque figure of 660Nm. The C40 houses a 78-kWh lithium-ion battery that is said to deliver a range of 420 km (WLTP standard).

Charging the C40 Recharge

Like all EVs, charging on the C40 is pretty standard. With a Type 2 AC connection, expect around 8 hours (11 kW, 3 phase outlet). Fast charging is handled by DC fast charging via a CCS connector. DC fast charging can charge 0 – 80% in 40 minutes (with a charger capable of up to 150 kW).

The C40 is quite similar to its sibling, the XC40 Recharge EV. However, the C40 is (to me) much more stylish. It does tout improved performance figures of 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds compared to the XC40’s 4.9 seconds and a 20 km more range. Top speed remains capped at 180km/h following Volvo’s safety methods.

Back profile of the C40 Recharge

The difference (XC40 Recharge vs C40 Recharge) lies within the coupelike design of the C40. It is much sportier and has additional bits and pieces such as the roof spoiler and a wing above the tail lamps (2 spoilers, woah!). While both do share a similar frontend, the taillights of the C40 is sleeker to match its profile.

Interior is similar to the XC40 with the Android Automotive OS (not the same as Android Auto) also as standard in both. There is no clear date as to when these models will launch here in Malaysia, but rest assured they will arrive within this year.

Fancy a Volve, might be a good idea to wait a while to snag one up in the coming months. While you wait for that, help us out by sharing your thoughts and following us on social media for regular updates or read this instead.
