Alright, buckle up, because Xiaomi EV has had quite the year! The company’s first-ever electric sedan, the SU7, just celebrated its one-year anniversary since its big debut, and boy, has it delivered. Literally. Over 130,000 deliveries to date, smashing through their revised 2024 target ahead of schedule. Not bad for a car that’s only been around a year.
Let’s rewind a bit. The SU7first came onto the scene on December 28, 2023, when Xiaomi’s head honcho, Lei Jun, took to the stage and announced Xiaomi’s bold plan to crack the top five global automakers within 20 years. Ambitious? Sure. But if this year is anything to go by, they’re off to a pretty strong start.
The SU7 officially launched on March 28, 2024, with three versions to choose from: the Standard, the Pro, and the Max. Deliveries for the Standard and Max versions began in April, with the Pro version following in May. By May 23, during Xiaomi’s earnings call, they laid down a target of at least 100,000 deliveries for the year. Then they got ambitious, upping the goal to 120,000. And in November, they took it up a notch again, aiming for 130,000. Guess what? They nailed it.
November was a blockbuster month, with the SU7 delivering over 20,000 units, marking the second consecutive month it hit that milestone. No wonder Xiaomi EV is in party mode.
Looking ahead, Xiaomi EV isn’t slowing down. The SU7 Ultra, a super-premium version of the sedan, was teased back in October. It’s set to launch in March 2025 and comes with a jaw-dropping price tag of RMB 814,900 (~MYR 500k), nearly four times the base SU7 (between MYR 140k to MYR 190k). If that’s too rich for your blood, Xiaomi’s first SUV, the YU7, is on the horizon. It’ll be hitting the roads around June or July next year.
So, what’s the verdict? Xiaomi EV is clearly making waves in the electric vehicle world, and the SU7’s first year has been nothing short of a smash hit. Whether they’ll hit that top-five automaker goal is still up for debate, but one thing’s for sure, they’re coming out swinging.
