The MG Cyberster made its Singaporean debut at the Singapore Motorshow in January, turning heads and carving a niche for itself as a sporty convertible in a market with few such options. Think about it, how many sporty convertibles can you name that are still in production? The Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4, and Mazda MX-5 come to mind, but the list is short. And when it comes to convertible EVs? The options are nearly non-existent.

In Singapore, convertibles are generally a rare sight, given our hot and humid weather that isn’t always ideal for top-down driving. Still, cruising through scenic spots or even taking it across to places like Taiping or Genting with the roof down offers an experience unlike any other; blissful and exhilarating in its own way.

But are Singaporeans ready for a Chinese sports car? The MG Cyberster’s bold design may not appeal to everyone, but it’s undeniably distinctive. For those willing to overlook its SAIC ownership and focus on the MG heritage and design cues, there’s a lot to appreciate.

Powered by dual electric motors, the Cyberster delivers a combined 544 PS (400 kW) and 725 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. The single-motor, rear-wheel drive variant is no slouch with 335hp and 475Nm on tap and a 0-100km/h time of just 5 seconds. While its 77 kWh battery adds significant weight, it provides a respectable WLTP-rated range of 444 km (507 km for rear-wheel variant). Fast charging support up to 144 kW allows the battery to go from 10% to 80% in 38 minutes, though the 7 kW on-board AC charger means a full charge at home takes a lengthy 10.5 hours.

For those craving a fun, two-seat EV that delivers on style, performance, and practicality, the MG Cyberster is a compelling choice. As Doug DeMuro might say, it’s packed with quirks and features. The sleek looks, a Jaguar F-Type-inspired interior, and yes, those flashy “billionaire doors,” might appeal to you. With the right price and the right specs, the Cyberster just might win over Singaporean hearts (and roads).
