If you are not aware of who or what BYD is, it is a Chinese EV giant that managed to overtake Tesla to become the largest EV manufacturer to date. A report by The Edge said that Sime Darby Motors (SDM) is currently in talks with the EV giant to be an official distributor in Malaysia.
So why does it matter? BYD makes a range of vehicles, from buses, trucks, and passenger cars to even forklifts. With sales surpassing even the likes of Tesla, BYD does mean business. Reports suggest that BYD is setting up a plant in Thailand to manufacture their passenger cars’ right-hand-drive (RHD) models, especially the BYD Atto 3. Hopefully, with this, BYD will have a stronger presence here in Malaysia
