Renault 5 Turbo 3E – Proof EVs can be Exciting

So, here’s something really exciting. Renault, the French car brand, just dropped a documentary called Anatomy of a Comeback on Prime Video, and it’s all about how they turned their company around from the brink of disaster. Seriously, we’re talking about a crisis so deep, it seemed like the end for Renault in the early 2020s. But instead of folding, they launched Renaulution – a bold, transformative roadmap that changed everything.

The wide body and low stance does look aggressive.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. At the very end of episode four, they drop an Easter egg that no one saw coming – a brand-new, never-before-seen production car: the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. Yup, you heard that right – a new 5 Turbo, 44 years after the original hit the scene. And they don’t just reveal it casually. No, they bring us into the design department with top execs like Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault Group, to give us an exclusive sneak peek. It’s bold, it’s daring, and it’s a nod to the past while pushing into the future.

The new Renault 5 Turbo 3E is an all-electric hot hatch that’s totally packed with performance. It’s got that old-school rally car vibe, but it’s made for the electric age. Think carbon fiber, lightweight superstructure, and a rear-wheel-drive layout. But here’s the kicker – two electric motors, one for each rear wheel, pumping out 500 horsepower. Yep, this thing can launch from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. That’s faster than a lot of supercars.

Renault’s not just making a car here. They’re bringing their A-game with motorsport-inspired performance and a design that’s going to make enthusiasts lose their minds. Get ready, because this is the ultimate hot hatch reimagined.

The design while has subtle cues to its predecessor, is no doubt a head turner.

If the over the top 500 horsepower isn’t your thing, you could check out the Alpine A290, it uses the same platform.

The Alpine A290 GTS.

Do you think it will make it to our shores right here in Malaysia? Let us know down in the comments below.
