Chinese Alphard anyone? Zeekr 009 launched in Malaysia. From RM 350k

The Zeekr 009 has caught the attention of our editor at EV Malaya for good reason. Its design, reminiscent of the Alphard and Vellfire, pits this Chinese EV against some of Asia’s most iconic luxury MPVs. But will they succeed in luring our fellow T20s to try them out? Lets dive in.

The Zeekr 009 comes with four interior colour options.

Locally, the 009 comes in two variants, which are almost identical aside from seat configurations: the Luxury variant with seven seats (2-2-3 layout) priced at RM349,800 on-the-road without insurance, and the Ultra Luxury at RM359,800, which features six seats (2-2-2 layout).

The 009 has 2 seats layout 2-2-2 (6 seater) or 2-2-3 (7 seater).

Both variants come standard with executive second-row seats, but the Ultra Luxury version takes it a step further with wider seats, built-in foldable tray tables, and a dedicated control panel for seat adjustments. Meanwhile, the Luxury variant’s seats are narrower, allowing for easy access to the 60:40 split-folding bench in the third row. Nappa leather upholstery is standard in both variants, with power-adjustable seats in both the front and second rows, featuring massage and ventilation functions.

Ooooo a cooler?

Aside from the different seating configurations and colour schemes, the two variants share the same premium features. These include touch panels for the power-sliding doors, a 8.6-litre refrigerator, panoramic sunroof, a 17-inch ceiling-mounted OLED display, and a second-row camera for video calls or observing passengers.

009 White with black interior, I must say Chinese EVs have futuristic interiors.

In terms of interior colour options, the Luxury variant comes in a simple black cabin with three exterior colours: Phantom Black, Electric Blue, and Crystal White. The Ultra Luxury variant offers two two-tone options – Midnight Blue/Polar White and Stone Grey/Polar White – paired with Electric Blue and Crystal White, while Phantom Black comes with an all-black cabin.

The HUD is normal sized, don’t worry!

The 009 also comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.05-inch OLED touchscreen, and a 50W wireless charging pad in the centre console. The 39.95-inch augmented reality head-up display (the actual HUD component, the physical display panel, is smaller. The 39.95-inch figure likely refers to the effective display area or the size of the image projected onto the windshield), telematics with an app, and a 30-speaker Yamaha sound system complete the high-tech setup.

Under the hood, the Zeekr 009 features a dual-motor setup delivering 612 PS (603 hp) and 693 Nm of torque, capable of going from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Power comes from a 116 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, providing up to 582 km of range (WLTP). Charging is fast, with AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 150 kW, able to recharge from 10-80% in 30 minutes.

The 009 also offers a dual-chamber air suspension system and 19-inch aero-style wheels as standard. For safety, the 009 includes seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a digital video recorder, along with driver assistance systems like collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic parking assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

See the resemblance?

In terms of size, the 009 measures 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, and 1,848 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm. Compared to the Alphard/Vellfire, it’s longer, wider, and has a larger wheelbase. The 009 comes with a generous five-year, 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year, 160,000 km battery warranty, and two years of free connected services. The first 500 buyers will receive a home charger, portable charger, and solar film. Zeekr is represented in Malaysia by Sentinel Automotive, with showrooms in Petaling Jaya and Sunway City, and more planned in Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Melaka, and Sarawak.

Question is would you choose the Zeekr 009 over the tried and true Alphard or Vellfire? Let us know in the comments below!
